Unit 3: magazine proposal

I am creating a magazine that will focus on promoting local culture on a given area, i am going to create a brochure about the local culture and attractions in Manchester  which will focus on its history and music and will have a working name called a Mancunian guide to culture which may get changed during later stages in production

the type of culture i will promote in my brochure is popular/low culture.Which shows the category of people i will be aiming this brochure at. This will attract the ABC1 readers due to their disposable income. The age group will also be more from the 18- 21+ due to there status of working and students being around the city due to university which allows them in spare time to look around and having disposable income. Another reason on why i have decided to chose this target market is due to the hipster aesthetics i will be including in my magazine. As i want to incorporate famous images such as the Printworks or brew dog; due to their craft ales which fits well with the millennial/hipster market i am aiming at. and inside will have a double page spread on the pubs which again fits well with my target audience but also caters for a wider range of audiences if they read the magazine. And due to me using Manchester in my magazine i will include popular culture i am promoting which will include pop music, venues, street art, restaurants and cinemas which will again link with my target audience

the brochure will be printed on an A3 sized document which in turn will be trimmed down to an A4 portrait size to allow the colour to bleed off and get a clean image for the brochure but the inside will be A3 landscape to make up a double page spread with the stories of the local culture in Manchester. And all images of photography in the the brochure will be all created by me to avoid copy right and get an original image.

Unit 3 : document analysis

Hull city of culture :

Hull is mainly built up and around the mouth of the humber estuary which a large port as it was most notable a market town, military supply port, trading hub, fishing and whaling centre which was first recorded in an 1193 document and was renamed kings town of hull where king Edward 1st  stayed during the first battle of the Scots

hull

with the culture magazine for the City of Hull the front cover has a very well design magazine cover which shows what hull is in a simple image on the front cover which entices you to read on. The main image used on the page is a propeller from a boat. This then links the magazine to Hulls boating background and with the colour blue used to   denote imagery of the sea.  Slightly unusual is the colours scheme on the front cover   However , The colours they have used are complementary colours again allowing for an aesthetic pleasing image.  throughout the front cover there is a symmetrical layout, with each of the text boxes in the corners next to each side of the propellers to keep a clean and symmetrical look, which intern stop clustering and make the leaflet easier to read. And the cover also has the inclusion to a website link showing use of convergent media allowing the reader to find more information out online by promoting it on the front cover.hull2

throughout the magazine of Hull it seems to exhibit the same style through out the magazine and using the  same text. The same bold text is used on each page, with each letter a capital letter and the text being the same size across all pages around about the size of “11” which is a a smaller font size which could indicate the type of target audience  for in this magazine.  On each page there is also a bold header, followed by a brief description about what they are going to talk about, again in bold. allowing the viewer to notice that this is important as a brief summary about what they will say on the page. and in each double spread page they’ve used contrasting colours such as black and white and have used bright colours with overlapping geometric shapes to give a unique and aesthetically pleasing look at the magazine.  And throughout the use of sans serif font, which makes the pages modernized and easy to read. and finally they have the use of convergent media in each page to link to other sites to allow you to carry on readying about the subjects in the page

Throughout the magazine the words have been in a small font and the use of sans serif denotes of a higher demographic of a well read nature. This then links in with hulls national average of 84% with some of the best readers as they are over the national average. This then shows with the use of langue such as  ‘alumnus’, which may appeal to people in the demographic of AB who will find this document easily readable and understandable, compared to someone in the DE category. where they would then instead use a bigger and easily read font such as comic sans.
