img_2409A private conglomerate media business is a collective of all different company’s that are all privatised . They form to make a conglomerate business which will have many different sub-sections and can include many different departments of different media. For example, Walt Disney Company is comprised of various different media to create one company .It has media in film(Disney,Marvel Entertainment ,Lucasfilm)Tv(Espn, Marvel entertainment),the gaming industry(Lucasarts) and radio(Disney radio) plus theme parks. As a conglomerate Walt Disney Company is made up of many different divisions and subsidiaries that make up the company. For example Theme parks, Tv, Shops

Unit 1: Media ownership

A broadcaster is the name of the business or organisation that owns different TV channels, e.g. Independent Television owns ITV.

A TV channel shows programmes.

A public service, publicly owned radio or TV channel broadcasts content for the public benefit, news, TV, weather, politics, documentaries. e.g. BBC and is paid for by the licence fee.

A public service, privately owned radio or TV channel broadcasts content for the public benefit, news, TV, weather, politics, documentaries. e.g. ITV and is paid for by advertising.
A privately owned, non public service broadcaster does not have to show programmes for the public benefit. e.g. MTV just broadcasts music and entertainment, paid for by advertising and subscriptions.

BBC

The BBC is bbcthe short for British Broadcasting company which is state owned meaning is owned by the government. the BBC is funded by the general public under the name of a TV license which is compulsory if you own a TV or watch online as IPlayer. Not paying the TV license is seen as criminal offence and could be fined or imprisoned for not paying.

The BBC was established in 1922 October 18 in the pursuit of informing,educating and entertaining the British public by Lord Reith.And since the conception of the BBC it has Evolved to host multiple channels such as BBC 1, BBC 2 and recently expand from the radio and television to the internet hosting its first online only shows and channel BBC 3 which used to be on TV. ITV PLC

ITV plc is a privately owned media british conglomerate which is comprised of  13-15 tv license subsidiary to create ITV Network. ITV plc makes its money through advertisements and selling their shows to other countries unlike the bbc where the state funds for the company.
ITV was founded in 1955 as an

independent television to provide competition to the long established BBC. ITV is also the oldest privately owned commercial network in the UK.  ITV plc was then formed by a corporate takeover by Granada plc and Carlton Communications which then makes up the ITV Network.

Channel 4

Channel 4 is a Publicly-owned/ non-profit,commercially funded, public services which has a remit similar to the BBC  to be innovative, experimental and distinctive. Channel 4  has a wide range of variety with its 6 different channels which cater to many different audiences; Channel 4, E4, More 4, 4Seven .Film 4 and 4 Music

private independent media business

A private independent media business is a company that unlike a public media business is not paid by the state and owned by the government ,for example the BBC, is a public media business. A private independent is funded by advertisements and sponsorship deals , an example would be ITV. This is a private media business that is funded by advertisements with its sole purpose  to entertain the public whereas a public media  business has to entertain, inform and teach like the BBC.Unlike public services a private independent media business is free from any influence by the government or corporate interests.

Unit 1: Different types of contemporary media ownership

there are a number of different types of media industry, ranging from television to film, web, gaming, radio, printed news and magazines. I am going to look at some different types of media company and describe the activities they carry out.

Computer Games

Computer downloadgames is a type of media organisation which is used to provide a passing of time and to allow game de
signers to convey their work.For example Bethesda Softworks is a media organisation in computer games as they have produced many games which are critically acclaimed and Game of The Year winners such as Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, Elder Scrolls 5 skyrim and the Fallout franchise to name a few.
This media organisation was established 1986, Maryland, USA.

News

They specialise in reporting news going on around the world by reporting them live or in the newspaper usually the day after. The sun was founded in 1964 with the political alignment of the conservative party. But The Sun has come under scrutiny of its false reports of the Hillsborough disaster which made many news shops and shops in Liverpool to not sell the sun over the false accusations.

Radioradio1

BBC Radio 1 is a British radio station operated by the British Broadcasting Corporation which also broadcasts internationally, specialising in modern and current popular music and chart hits throughout the day. BBC Radio 1 started 24-hour broadcasting on 1 May 1991

Television

BBC wasbbc started in 1 January 1922 by John Reith in the aim to entertain the British public .BBC is a media organisation which spans across multiple types of media. For example they have Radio Stations and Television stations. BBC have done this to reach a wider audience and appeal to most people
